Revealing traces of what was buried and thus preserved, the figures I was instructed to make, enabled me to release the veil that obscured the traces of colonial absence that have haunted many generations of slave descendants. Here, I was able to see not only revelations of the past, but remnants of my existence as traces of them within me. (Part of the series: The Object of My Gaze)
