Born and raised in London Marcia Michael began photographing at the age of 18. She studied at Derby University and then later moved on to Bournemouth Art College and finally to London College of Communication (formally London College of printing) where she completed an MA with Distinction, all in photography.
Since her time at Derby University she has been freelancing for many editorial magazines such as the now defunct Face, 20 ans, Tank, 2nd Generation, Trace and newspapers. Marcia has produced work for designers such as Bella Freud, Boudicca, Preen and Louis de Gama (all London based).
Her approach to photography adheres to the formal elements of the beginnings of photography, while her style is simple, of a classical nature and structure and for many is termed timeless.
As an artist, Marcia's quest for originality in her images has included the use of etchings, polymer photogravure and screenprinting.
She prints many of the images on her own handmade paper and enjoys making handmade books. Marcia also has had several poems published in the UK.
Marcia lives in London with her two children.
